      Question

If the length of certain rectangle is decreased by 4 cm

and breadth is increased by 2 cm, it would result in a square of the same area. What is the perimeter of the original rectangle?
A 40cm Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
B 26cm Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
C 34cm Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
D 20cm Correct Answer Incorrect Answer

      Solution

      Let, L = length   B = breadth of rectangle ATQ, (L – 4) = (B + 2)   L – B = 6 .........(1) Also, LB = (L – 4) (B + 2) LB = LB – 4B + 2L – 8   4B – 2L = – 8 ........(2) After solving (i) and (ii) B=2, L=8 L + B = 10 Now perimeter - Þ 2 (L + B) = 2(10) = 20 cm
