Question
Income of 'Ravi' is 20% more than that of 'Amit', and
the ratio of expenditure of Amit to that of Ravi is 3:4. Amit's income is Rs. 800 more than Ravi's expenditure, and Amit saves Rs. 200 more than Ravi. Find the income of Amit.Solution
ATQ,
Let, the income of Amit be Rs. 20x So, income of Ravi = 1.20 × 20x = Rs. 24x Let, the expenditure of Amit and Ravi be Rs. 3y and Rs. 4y, respectively. Now, Savings of Amit = 20x – 3y Savings of Ravi = 24x – 4y Amit saves Rs. 200 more than Ravi: → 20x – 3y = 24x – 4y + 200 → y – 4x = 200 ..........(i) Also: Income of Amit = Expenditure of Ravi + 800 → 20x = 4y + 800 → 5x – y = 200 ..........(ii) Now, add (i) and (ii): y – 4x + 5x – y = 200 + 200 → x = 400 → Income of Amit = 20 × 400 = Rs. 8,000
