      Question

The income ratio between 'P' and 'Q' is 5:4, while their

expenditure ratio is 9:7 respectively. If both manage to save Rs. 10,000 each, what is the difference in their expenditures?
A Rs.32000 Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
B Rs.25000 Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
C Rs.20000 Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
D Rs.45000 Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
E None of these Correct Answer Incorrect Answer

      Solution

      ATQ,

      Let the income of 'P' and 'Q' be Rs. '5x' and Rs. '4x' respectively, and expenditure of 'P' and 'Q' be '9y' and Rs. '7y' respectively. 5x - 9y = 10000 -------- (I) And, 4x - 7y = 10000 ---------- (II) From equation I and II, We get, 5x - 9y = 4x - 7y Or, x = 2y On putting value of 'x' in equation I, We get, 5 Γ— 2y - 9y = 10000 Or, 10y - 9y = 10000 Or, y = 10000 Required difference = 9y - 7y = 2y = 2 Γ— 10000 = Rs. 20,000
