    The time required by a boat to travel (x – 40) km against

    the stream is equal to the time it takes to go (2x – 80) km with the stream. If the speed of the boat is 14 km/h and the stream flows at 2 km/h, find the value of ‘x’.
    A 25 km Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
    B 40 km Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
    C 55 km Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
    D 35 km Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
    E None of these Correct Answer Incorrect Answer

    Solution

    ATQ,

    (x – 40)/(14 – 2) = (2x – 80)/(14 + 2)

    (x – 40)/12 = (2x – 80)/16

    16x – 640 = 24x – 960

    8x = 320

    x = 40

    So, the value of ‘x’ is 40 km.
