Question
The speed of boat in still water is 24 kmph. If it
takes 3 hour to go upstream 30 kms, in what time (approx) will it return same distance downstream?Solution
Distance = 30 km Time taken to go upstream = 3 hour ∴ Speed upstream = 30/3 = 10 km/hr ∴ Speed of the current = 24 – 10= 14 km/hr ∴ Speed downstream = 24 + 14 =38 km/hr ∴ Time taken to go downstream = 30/38 = 15/19 hr ⇒ (15/19) x 60 minutes = 47 minutes approx
