Question
The earnings of ‘U’, ‘V’, and ‘W’ are in the
ratio 2:3:5. Their average income is Rs. 18,000. If they spend 45%, 55%, and 65% of their respective incomes, find the average of their expenditures.Solution
ATQ,
Sum of incomes of ‘U’, ‘V’ and ‘W’ = 18000 × 3 = Rs. 54,000
Income of ‘U’ = 54000 × (2/10) = Rs. 10,800
Income of ‘V’ = 54000 × (3/10) = Rs. 16,200
Income of ‘W’ = 54000 × (5/10) = Rs. 27,000
Expense of ‘U’ = 10800 × 0.45 = Rs. 4,860
Expense of ‘V’ = 16200 × 0.55 = Rs. 8,910
Expense of ‘W’ = 27000 × 0.65 = Rs. 17,550
Therefore, required average = (4860 + 8910 + 17550) ÷ 3 = Rs. 10,440
