Question
A college group of 50 students has an average age of 23 years. 10 new students are added and the average age decreases to 21. What is the average age of the new students?
Solution
Initial sum = 50 Γ 23 = 1150 years
New total = 60
New average = 21
New total sum = 60 Γ 21 = 1260 years
Sum of new = 1260 - 1150 = 110 years
Average = 110 Γ· 10 = 11 years
