Average of 8 numbers is 70. If average of first four and last two numbers is 90 and 50, respectively then find the fifth number given that ratio of fifth and sixth number is 3:2, respectively.

Solution

Let fifth and sixth numbers be ‘3x’ and ‘2x’, respectively. So, 3x + 2x = 70 × 8 – 90 × 3 – 50 × 2 = 100 Or, 5x = 100 Or, x = 20 So, fifth number = 20 × 3 = 60
