Question
A person purchased diesel at Rs. 5, Rs. 7 and Rs. 6 per
litre in three successive years. If he spent Rs. 5460 each year on diesel, then find the approximate average cost (per litre) paid by him in the given three successive years.Solution
According to the question, Quantity of diesel purchased by him in 1 year = (5460/5) = 1092 litres Quantity of oil purchased in 2 year = (5460/7) = 780 litres Quantity of diesel purchased in 3 year = (5460/6) = 910 litres Total quantity of oil purchased in give three years = 1092 + 780 + 910 = 2782 litres Total amount spent on diesel in given three years = 5460 times; 3 = Rs. 16380 Required average = 16380/2782 = 5.887 ~ Rs. 5.89
