As of May 2020, the present base year for gross domestic product is 2011-12. The Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MOSPI) is looking to decide on a new base year for the GDP series. The ministry is considering 2017-18 as the new base year but no decision has been taken as the committees of experts are awaiting some more data from Annual Survey of Industries and the Consumer Expenditure Survey, before finalising their opinion.
