The Mediation Act, 2023 establishes the MEDIATION COUNCIL OF INDIA (Section 30) as the apex statutory body to promote, regulate and develop mediation, duty-bound to maintain a register of mediators and mediation service providers, recognise mediation institutes and training, lay down the code of conduct/professional standards and fee norms, and oversee the growth of the profession. The Council thereby institutionalises and professionalises mediation, complementing the Act's court-referred, pre-litigation, online and community modes. The Bar Council regulates advocates, not mediation. The Mediation Council is the statutory fulcrum of the 2023 framework.
