The definition of 'public premises' in Section 2(e) of the Act covers premises belonging to or taken on lease/requisitioned by the Central Government, by a COMPANY in which the Central Government holds not less than FIFTY-ONE per cent of the paid-up capital (including public-sector undertakings such as IndianOil), and by corporations established by a Central Act, among the categories enumerated. Because IndianOil is a company in which the Government holds >51%, its premises fall squarely within the Act. The definition thus anchors the Act's reach to central-government-connected bodies. Its breadth is what gives PSUs their effective eviction remedy.
