Solution

Section 6 of the Code on Social Security, 2020 provides for the constitution of the National Social Security Board for Unorganised Workers by the Central Government. Its primary functions are to recommend suitable schemes for different sections of unorganised workers to the Central Government, monitor the schemes notified for unorganised workers, review the expenditure from the funds, and advise the Central Government on matters arising out of the administration of the Code. The Board also covers the interests of gig workers and platform workers, whose social security needs have been formally acknowledged for the first time. At the state level, a State Unorganised Workers' Social Security Board is constituted under Section 6(5) by each State Government to perform similar functions at the state level. Separately, State Building and Other Construction Workers' Welfare Boards continue to function for construction workers.
