● The purpose of this Act is to protect and improve the environment and address related issues.  In June 1972, India participated in the United Nations Conference on the Human Environment held in Stockholm. The conference emphasized the need for global efforts to protect and improve the environment. To implement these decisions, this law aims to:  Protect and improve the environment.  Prevent harm to humans, animals, plants, and property due to environmental hazards.  It shall be deemed to have come into force on the 16th day of September, 1958 except sections 11, 19 and 20 which shall come into force at once.
