Under section 30 of the Indian Partnership Act, 1932, a minor may be admitted to the benefits of partnership, in which case his liability is confined to his share in the firm's property and profits and he is not personally liable for the acts of the firm. On attaining majority, he must elect whether he will become a partner or not, and section 30(5) requires him to give public notice of that election within six months of attaining majority, either alone or along with other minors. If he fails to give such notice, he becomes a partner in the firm on the expiry of the six-month period. His severance after due notice does not affect the firm's rights against him in respect of his shares. Six months is accordingly the period prescribed.
