As per Section 25 of the Indian Contract Act 1872, an agreement made without consideration is void, EXCEPT when it is -

Section 25 of the Indian Contract Act 1872 declares an agreement made without consideration void, subject to three statutory exceptions. First, an agreement made in writing and registered, out of natural love and affection, between parties standing in a near relation to each other is enforceable. Second, a written and signed promise by a debtor to pay a debt barred by limitation is valid, because a time-barred debt is good consideration for such a promise. Third, a promise to compensate a person who has voluntarily done something for the promisor, or done something which the promisor was legally compellable to do, is enforceable. Since all three situations fall within the exceptions, 'all of the above' is correct, while a bare promise to marry falls within none of them and remains void.
