Under Section 26(1), the correctness of the amount in the recovery certificate before the Recovery Officer:

Section 26(1) explicitly provides that it shall not be open to the defendant to dispute before the Recovery Officer the correctness of the amount specified in the certificate, and no objection to the certificate on any other ground shall be entertained by the Recovery Officer. The Recovery Officer's role is purely executive - to enforce and execute the certificate. Section 26(2) separately empowers the Presiding Officer (not the Recovery Officer) to withdraw the certificate or correct clerical/arithmetical mistakes. If the defendant wants to contest the amount, the correct remedy is an appeal to the DRAT under Section 20 before the Recovery Officer's proceedings commence.
