Section 20(1) of the SARFAESI Act empowers the Central Government to set up (or cause to be set up) a Central Registry for the purpose of registration of transactions relating to securitisation and reconstruction of financial assets and creation of security interests. Under Section 22, the Central Registry maintains a Central Register of transactions relating to securitisation, reconstruction and security interest. The Register under Section 22 is open for inspection by any person during business hours on payment of prescribed fees. The 2016 Amendment Act significantly expanded the Registry's role through Chapter IVA (Sections 26B-26E) to cover creditors beyond secured creditors and created a broader public database of security interests.
