What is the primary reason IPv6 eliminates broadcast addressing entirely, replacing it with multicast and anycast mechanisms instead?

Broadcast traffic forces every host on a network segment to receive and at least partially process the packet, even if only a small subset actually needs it, wasting bandwidth and processing cycles across the whole segment. IPv6 replaces this with multicast (delivery only to hosts that have explicitly joined a group) and anycast (delivery to the nearest single member of a group), targeting traffic far more precisely. This design choice is about efficiency and precision of delivery, not processing overhead comparisons, historical IPv4 hardware bugs, address length limitations, or header size reduction.
