World Theatre Day is observed globally on March 27 each year. The day was initiated in 1961 by the International Theatre Institute (ITI) and features various national and international theatre events organized to mark the occasion. The first World Theatre Day Message was written by Jean Cocteau in 1962. In 2025, the celebration was conducted under the theme "Theatre and Peace with Culture." As an example of local observance, the Drushya Vedika Samskrutika Samstha, in collaboration with Sumadhura Kala Niketan and Andhra Arts Academy, celebrated World Theatre Day at Sri Velidandla Hanumantharaya Grandhalayam Hall in Vijayawada.
