In March 2025, Punjab Governor Gulab Chand Kataria, exercising powers conferred under Article 165 of the Constitution of India, appointed Maninderjit Singh Bedi as the Advocate General for the State of Punjab. His appointment took effect from the date he assumed office. This appointment followed the resignation of Senior Advocate Gurminder Singh, who had held the position since October 2023. Concurrently, Advocate Anu Chatrath was appointed as Senior Additional Advocate General of Punjab on a one-year contractual basis.
