Madhav National Park was recently designated as India's 58th tiger reserve. Located in the Shivpuri district of Madhya Pradesh in the Chambal region, it is the 9th tiger reserve in Madhya Pradesh. The reserve spans 1,751 square kilometers, comprising a 375 square kilometer core area and a 1,276 square kilometer buffer zone. Currently, it houses 5 tigers, including 2 cubs. The park was named after Madho Rao Scindia, the former Maharaja of Gwalior, and was previously used as hunting grounds by Mughal and Scindia rulers. It features the George Castle, built by the Scindias for the visit of British King George V in 1911.
