The Golden Quadrilateral highway network connects four major metropolitan cities in India: Delhi, Kolkata, Mumbai, and Chennai. Hyderabad is not directly part of this primary network. Other cities that lie along the Golden Quadrilateral route include Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Pune, Surat, and Vijayawada, among many others. This infrastructure project was initially planned in 1999, launched in 2001, and completed in 2013. The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), operating under the Ministry of Road, Transport and Highways, manages the Golden Quadrilateral project.
