Question
Who is the Chief Election Commissioner of
India?Solution
Sunil Arora has been appointed as the new Chief Election Commissioner. President Ram Nath Kovind appointed Arora as new CEC. He succeeded OP Rawat and took charge on December 2. Arora has been inducted to the Chief Election Commissioner's post a year after he was appointed to the Election Commission in September 2017. The President of India based on a recommendation from the Government of India appoints the Election Commissioners. They have tenure of six years, or up to the age of 65 years, whichever is earlier. The Chief Election Commissioner can be removed from office only through impeachment by Parliament in a manner similar to that of a judge of the Supreme Court.
