India signed a Host Country Agreement with the BIMSTEC Secretariat on November 8, 2024, to establish the BIMSTEC Energy Center (BEC) in Bengaluru, Karnataka. The center will serve as a hub for promoting regional energy security, managing a regional energy database, and facilitating cross-border energy projects within the BIMSTEC countries. BIMSTEC stands for the Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation, comprising seven countries around the Bay of Bengal region.
