    Small stone tools were first discovered in India in 1867 by Sir CL Carlyle in the Vindhya region. Robert Bruce Foote of the Geological Survey of India received the first Pre-Stone Age tool made of laterite at Pallavaram in Tamil Nadu in 1863, hence Bruce is considered the father of Indian prehistory. Note- Cunningham is called the father of the Indian Archaeological Department.
