The National Food Security Act primarily aims to:

• The National Food Security Act (NFSA), 2013, was enacted to provide for food and nutritional security by ensuring access to adequate quantity of quality food at affordable prices. • It covers up to 75% of the rural population and 50% of the urban population (roughly 67% of the total population) under the Targeted Public Distribution System (TPDS). • Eligible persons are entitled to receive 5 kg of foodgrains per person per month at subsidized prices of Rs. 3/2/1 per kg for rice, wheat, and coarse grains respectively.
