The Self Employment Scheme for Rehabilitation of Manual Scavengers (SRMS) provides a maximum capital subsidy of Rs. 5 lakh per beneficiary. • Scheme Purpose: SRMS aims to rehabilitate manual scavengers and their dependents into alternative professions. • Revision in 2021: o The capital subsidy has been increased from Rs. 3.25 lakh to Rs. 5 lakh. o Payment of the subsidy is now upfront instead of as a back-end subsidy. • Additional Eligibility: Sanitation workers and their dependents are also eligible for the same subsidy amount for sanitation-related projects. • Health Coverage: Manual scavengers receive health insurance coverage of up to Rs. 5 lakh under the Ayushman Bharat Yojana.
