Coal India Limited (CIL) signed a memorandum of understanding with the Indian Institute of Technology, Hyderabad (IIT-H) to develop clean coal technologies and explore diversification in coal utilization. Through this partnership, CIL will establish the Centre of Clean Coal Energy & Net Zero (CLEANZ) in Hyderabad. The collaboration aims to develop advanced technology readiness levels for sustainable utilization of Indian coal, aligning with the country's net zero commitments. CIL has approved a grant of ₹98 crore to IIT Hyderabad for a five-year period to establish this center of excellence. The initiative operates under the National Centre for Coal and Energy Research (NaCCER), an independent R&D unit of CIL's mine development arm, CMPDI.
