NIIF was created to provide infrastructure investment for maximizing the economic impact of commercially available projects (Greenfield Projects and Brownfield Projects). The idea to set up NIIF was addressed in the Union Budget 2015-2016 by the former Finance Minister of India, Arun Jaitley.
