The scheme was launched by the Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi on 1st May, 2016 six years ago in Ballia, Uttar Pradesh, a flagship scheme with an objective to distribute 50 million LPG connections to women of Below Poverty Line BPL families within the country to make clean cooking fuel such as LPG available to the rural and deprived households which were otherwise using traditional cooking fuels such as firewood, coal, cow-dung cakes.
