Haiderpur Wetland is a manmade wetland formed in 1984, spread around 6908 hectares in Bijnor district of Uttar Pradesh. It has been recognised as 47th Ramsar site in India and 2,463rd site internationally. It was formed by the construction of Madhya Ganga Barrage on the River Ganga. About Ramsar Sites – These are wetlands of international importance that have been designated under the criteria of the Ramsar Convention, established in 1971 by UNESCO for conservation of wetlands, and wise sustainable use of their resources.
