Question

An iron rod of 1 cm diameter and 8 cm length is drawn into a wire of 18 m length with uniform thickness. The thickness of the wire would be:

A 1/21 cm Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
B 1/18 cm Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
C 1/15 cm Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
D 1/12 cm Correct Answer Incorrect Answer

Solution

Diameter of the iron rod = 1 cm So, radius of the iron rod = 1/2 cm = 0.5 cm Length of the iron rod = 8 cm We know that, Volume of the cylinder = πr 2h = π × 0.52 × 8 ……. (i) Length of the wire = 18 m = 1800 cm Volume of the wire = πr2 h = π r2 × 1800 ….. (ii) On equang both the equaons we have π × 0.52 × 8 = π r2 × 1800 r2 = 2 /1800 r2 = 1/900 r = 1/30 cm Therefore, the diameter of the wire is 1/15 cm
