Question
A mixture (milk + water) contains milk and water in the
ratio 7:3, respectively. If 19 litres of mixture is taken out, then quantity of milk left in the resultant mixture would be 21 litres. Find the original quantity of the mixture.Solution
Let the total quantity of the mixture be ‘100x’ litres. So, quantity of milk in the original mixture = 100x × (7/10) = ‘70x’ litres And, quantity of milk withdrawn = 19 × (7/10) = 13.3 litres ATQ; 70x – 13.3 = 21 Or, 70x = 34.3 So, x = (34.3/70) So, original quantity of mixture = 100 × (34.3/70) = 49 litres
