      On 14 April 1944, the British cargo ship SS Fort Stikine, carrying explosives, cotton, and gold, caught fire and exploded at Victoria Dock, Bombay Port. The explosion killed 231 people and injured 476. In 1965, during the 11th meeting of SFAC, April 14 was officially declared National Fire Service Day.
