India’s first highway-based Emergency Landing Facility (EL

The first highway Emergency Landing Facility in Northeast India has been developed along the Moran Bypass in Dibrugarh district of Assam. The facility was constructed in coordination with the Indian Air Force. The airstrip is designed for dual-use purposes, allowing both military and civilian aircraft to use the highway section during emergencies. This strategic infrastructure provides an alternative landing site if nearby aviation facilities become unavailable. Its location in Dibrugarh also holds strategic importance because of the region’s proximity to international borders and the need for rapid emergency response capabilities.
