    Question

Which of the following is not a motivator as per

    Herzberg?
A Responsibility Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
B Recognition Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
C Salary Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
D Challenging work Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
E Achievement Correct Answer Incorrect Answer

    Solution

According to Herzberg, the motivational factors (also called satisfiers) yield positive satisfaction, are inherent to work and motivate the employees for a superior performance. Employees find these factors intrinsically rewarding. Motivational factors include recognition, growth, development opportunities, challenge at work, responsibility, achievement, etc.  Salary, status, fringe benefits and performance bonus are hygiene factors i.e. extrinsic factors/maintenance factors that prevent dissatisfaction at work but do not motivate employees. They are maintenance factors which are necessary but not motivating like salary, working conditions, interpersonal relations at work, etc.
