An effective MIS should be timely, accurate, complete, adequate or useful, relevant and explicit. It should be rather brief and accurate and provide explicit information so as to avoid any vague or ambiguous interpretations by the management team. If it is very detailed or implicit, management will have to make efforts to understand the critical information from it, which defeats the purpose of a MIS.
