Read the following passage and answer the next 3 question (Q24-Q26) Motivation is a powerful, yet tricky beast. Sometimes it is really easy to get motivated, and you find yourself wrapped up in a whirlwind of excitement. Other times, it is nearly impossible to figure out how to motivate yourself and you're trapped in a death spiral of procrastination. Scientists define motivation as your general willingness to do something. It is the set of psychological forces that compel you to take action. Most employees need motivation to feel good about their jobs and perform optimally. Some employees are money motivated while others find recognition and rewards personally motivating. Motivation levels within the workplace have a direct impact on employee productivity.Solution
To bring Maslow’s need hierarchy theory of motivation in synchronization with empirical research, Clayton Alderfer redefined it in his own terms. His re-work is called as ERG theory of motivation. He re-categorized Maslow’s hierarchy of needs into three simpler and broader classes of needs: • Existence needs- it corresponds to an individual’s physiological and safety needs as given by Maslow • Relatedness needs- Maslow’s social, love and belongingness needs fall under this class of need. • Growth needs- Maslow’s self-actualization needs and esteem needs fall under this category of need. It is different from Maslow’s theory in the sense that multiple needs can be satisfied at sae time. However satisfaction of one need does not lower the motivation to fulfil another.
