Classical theory consists of scientific theory (given by FW Taylor focused on increasing worker productivity), administrative theory (given by Henry Fayol focused on total organisation and making it more efficient) and bureaucratic theory (given by Max Weber focused organisation structure and hierarchy to make it efficient). Human relations theory focused on understanding the human behaviour in the organisation. As such, the systems approach is an integration of these approaches as it focuses on understanding the organisation as a holistic system and the interaction and interdependence between it’s internal and external factors.
