Question

Given below are two statements: One is labelled as Assertion (A) and the other is labelled as Reason (R):

Assertion (A): Tetrazolium test imparts red colouration on the viable cells in seed viability test.

Reasons (R): Dehydrogenase enzyme used for red colour formazon.

In the light of the above Statements, choose the most appropriate answer from the options given below:

A Both (A) and (R) are correct and (R) is the correct explanation of (A) Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
B Both (A) and (R) are correct but (R) is NOT the correct explanation of (A) Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
C (A) is correct but (R) is not correct Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
D (A) is not correct but (R) is correct Correct Answer Incorrect Answer

Solution

The tetrazolium test is widely utilized to test the viability of seeds.  It is based on the principle that all the living tissues are capable of reducing 2,3,5 triphenyl tetrazolium chloride or bromide into red colored compound formazone by H transfer reaction catalyzed by dehydrogenase enzyme.
