What is the IOCL Executive Recruitment 2026 Notification About?

IOCL has invited applications from eligible candidates for Executive positions through a Computer Based Test. The recruitment is spread across five posts, with each post carrying its own educational qualification, age limit, discipline requirements and, in some cases, professional experience criteria.

The five posts are Graduate Engineer (Grade A), Officer (Marketing) (Grade A), Law Officer (Grade A), Assistant Quality Control Officer (Grade A0), and Diploma Engineer (Grade E0).

Graduate Engineer recruitment covers seven engineering disciplines, while Diploma Engineer recruitment covers Electrical, Mechanical and Safety.

Officer (Marketing) is intended for candidates with the prescribed MBA/PGDM qualification in Marketing. Law Officer is meant for candidates with the required legal qualification and professional experience, while Assistant Quality Control Officer is intended for candidates with a Master's degree in Chemistry or specified Chemistry specializations along with relevant experience.

Candidates can apply for only one post. Therefore, candidates who possess multiple qualifications should still select only the post for which they intend to be considered. If multiple applications are submitted, the latest application will be treated as valid, while earlier applications will not be considered.

The recruitment process begins with the CBT. Candidates who meet the prescribed qualifying requirements and rank sufficiently high in the CBT will be shortlisted for the next stage. The later stages consist of GD, GT and PI, after which the final merit list will be prepared using the prescribed weightage.

What Are the Vacancy Details for IOCL Executive Recruitment 2026?

The notification announces 470 vacancies across Grade A, Grade A0 and Grade E0, covering technical and professional disciplines. The vacancies are distributed across UR, EWS, OBC (NCL), SC and ST categories, with separate PwBD vacancies indicated in the recruitment notification.

    GradeDisciplineTotal Vacancies
    Grade A Civil 62
    Grade A Chemical 16
    Grade A Electrical 75
    Grade A Electronics & Communication 32
    Grade A Mechanical 118
    Grade A Instrumentation 35
    Grade A Computer Science & IT 22
    Grade A Law 10
    Grade A Marketing 41
Grade A0 Quality Control (Chemistry) 9
    Grade E0 Electrical 14
    Grade E0 Mechanical 21
    Grade E0 Safety 15
    Total All Disciplines 470

Among the listed disciplines, Mechanical has the highest number of vacancies with 118 posts, followed by Electrical with 75 and Civil with 62 vacancies. The notification also includes 41 vacancies in Marketing, 35 in Instrumentation, 32 in Electronics & Communication and 22 in Computer Science & IT.

Candidates should check the category-wise breakup applicable to their discipline before applying, rather than relying only on the overall vacancy figure.

The notification also clearly states that the number of vacancies may increase or decrease at the absolute discretion of IOCL management, depending on organizational requirements. Therefore, the vacancy figures should be treated as notified vacancies and may be subject to revision.

What Posts Are Being Recruited Under IOCL Executive Recruitment 2026?

IOCL is recruiting candidates for five Executive posts:

    PostGradeEligible Area
Graduate Engineer A Chemical, Civil, Computer Science & IT, Electrical, Electronics & Communication, Instrumentation, Mechanical
Officer (Marketing) A MBA/PGDM with Marketing specialization
Law Officer A Graduation + LLB or 5-year Integrated LLB
Assistant Quality Control Officer A0 Chemistry and specified Chemistry specializations
Diploma Engineer E0 Electrical, Mechanical and Safety

The posts are intended for candidates with different academic and professional backgrounds. Graduate Engineer and Diploma Engineer provide opportunities in technical functions, while Officer (Marketing) is focused on marketing-related functions. Law Officer and Assistant Quality Control Officer are specialized positions with additional professional experience requirements.

Candidates should not assume that having a broadly related qualification automatically makes them eligible. IOCL has specified particular disciplines and qualifications for each position, and candidates are responsible for establishing their eligibility.

What is the Educational Qualification for Graduate Engineer?

Candidates applying for Graduate Engineer must possess a full-time regular B.E./B.Tech or equivalent degree in one of the disciplines specified in the notification. The qualification must be from an AICTE/UGC-recognized institution.

The eligible disciplines are Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Computer Science & IT, Electrical Engineering, Electronics & Communication Engineering, Instrumentation Engineering, and Mechanical Engineering.

The minimum percentage requirement is as follows:

    CategoryMinimum Marks
    General/EWS/OBC-NCL 65%
    SC/ST/PwBD 55%

The qualification has to satisfy the specific discipline requirements mentioned in the notification. Candidates with interdisciplinary or combined qualifications cannot automatically claim eligibility simply because their course contains subjects related to one of the accepted disciplines.

Candidates who have completed or are pursuing ME/M.Tech as part of an Integrated or Dual Degree programme may be eligible subject to the conditions specified by IOCL.

For Dual Degree candidates, the B.E./B.Tech percentage is considered, while the applicable percentage consideration differs for Integrated Degree candidates.

Candidates should also ensure that the required final degree/marksheet can be produced within the prescribed timeline. The notification requires candidates to be able to produce their final qualification by September 30, 2026, subject to the conditions specified.

What is the Educational Qualification for Officer (Marketing)?

For the Officer (Marketing) post, candidates must possess a 2-year full-time regular MBA or PGDM in Business Administration with specialization in Marketing Management.

Where a PGDM is submitted, it must be recognized as equivalent to an MBA by the Association of Indian Universities. The qualification must also be from an AICTE/UGC-recognized institution.

    CategoryMinimum Marks
    General/EWS/OBC-NCL 60%
    SC/ST/PwBD 55%

The Marketing specialization must be clearly established through the final degree certificate or the supporting documentation prescribed by IOCL. Candidates should therefore check their certificate before applying.

The notification also specifies that the majority of elective papers in the qualifying programme should conform to the Marketing specialization. Merely having a general MBA without the required Marketing specialization does not meet the prescribed qualification.

What is the Educational Qualification for Law Officer?

Candidates applying for Law Officer must possess either:

    • A graduation degree in any discipline followed by a 3-year LLB, or
    • A 5-year Integrated LLB degree.

The LLB qualification must be recognized by the Bar Council of India.

    CategoryGraduation3-Year LLB5-Year Integrated LLB
    General/EWS/OBC-NCL 60% 60% 60%
    SC/ST/PwBD 55% 55% 55%

The Law Officer post also requires relevant professional experience. Therefore, possessing the required law degree alone is not sufficient for eligibility.

Candidates who claim experience through legal practice, law firms or other professional legal work must be able to produce the prescribed proof at the document verification stage. Candidates practicing independently may be required to produce the relevant Bar Council registration and court appearance records.

What is the Educational Qualification for Assistant Quality Control Officer?

Candidates applying for Assistant Quality Control Officer must have a Master's Degree in Chemistry or one of the specified Chemistry specializations.

The accepted specializations include Inorganic Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, Physical Chemistry, Applied Chemistry and Industrial Chemistry.

    The minimum marks are:

    CategoryMinimum Marks
    General/EWS/OBC-NCL 60%
    SC/ST/PwBD 55%

Candidates should pay particular attention to the exact specialization requirement. Chemistry-related qualifications such as Biochemistry, Pharmacy, Toxicology, Geochemistry, Pharmacology and Food Technology are not treated as equivalent for this recruitment.

In addition to the educational qualification, candidates must have the required relevant post-qualification experience in Testing, R&D or Quality Control.

What is the Educational Qualification for Diploma Engineer?

Candidates applying for Diploma Engineer must possess a 3-year full-time Diploma in Engineering from an AICTE/UGC/State Board-recognized institution.

    The recruitment covers three disciplines:

    DisciplineGeneral/EWS/OBC-NCLSC/ST/PwBD
    Electrical 65% 55%
    Mechanical 65% 55%
    Safety 65% 55%*

For Safety, candidates must additionally possess a Diploma in Industrial Safety of at least one year from a recognized university, institute or board of technical education.

PwBD candidates are not eligible for the Safety discipline.

Candidates who have completed a Sandwich Diploma course can be eligible if the course meets the specified conditions. Recognized lateral-entry Diploma candidates may also be eligible subject to the prescribed requirements.

An important restriction applies to candidates holding higher professional qualifications. Candidates with qualifications such as BE, B.Tech, MBA, CA, CS, CMA, MCA or PhD are not eligible for the Diploma Engineer post. Candidates must also disclose any such qualification or pursuit of such qualification as required by the notification.

What Are the Common Qualification Rules Across IOCL Executive Posts?

Several conditions apply across the different posts.

First, candidates must possess the required qualification in the prescribed mode. Part-time, correspondence, distance and online qualifications are not accepted where the notification requires a full-time regular qualification.

Second, candidates must be able to produce the required final degree or marksheet by September 30, 2026, subject to the conditions mentioned in the notification.

Third, candidates whose marks are expressed through grades rather than percentages must provide the prescribed conversion formula or certificate issued by the concerned institution.

Candidates with foreign qualifications must establish the required equivalence through the prescribed authority.

Candidates should also understand that the presence of a similar-sounding subject in their degree does not necessarily make them eligible. IOCL has specified particular disciplines for the posts, and the final decision regarding the acceptability of a qualification will be subject to the conditions in the notification.

What is the Upper Age Limit for IOCL Executive Recruitment 2026?

The age of candidates is calculated as of July 1, 2026.

    PostMaximum Age for General/EWS
    Graduate Engineer 26 years
    Diploma Engineer 26 years
    Officer (Marketing) 28 years
    Law Officer 30 years
Assistant Quality Control Officer 30 years

The difference in age limits reflects the nature of the posts. Graduate Engineer and Diploma Engineer are structured more as entry-level technical recruitment opportunities, whereas Law Officer and Assistant Quality Control Officer require relevant professional experience and therefore have a higher maximum age.

Eligible candidates belonging to OBC-NCL, SC, ST, PwBD and other specified categories receive age relaxation according to the applicable rules.

The date of birth must be supported by the prescribed Matriculation or Higher Secondary certificate. Candidates should ensure that the date of birth entered in the application exactly matches their official records.

What is the Age Relaxation for Reserved Categories?

Age relaxation is available to eligible reserved-category candidates according to the conditions mentioned in the notification and applicable Government of India guidelines.

The notification provides different birth-date cut-offs for Graduate/Diploma Engineer, Officer-Marketing and Law/QC Officer posts. PwBD candidates receive additional relaxation as applicable, while Ex-Servicemen and eligible Commissioned Officers receive relaxation according to the relevant government rules.

Candidates claiming age relaxation must produce valid supporting documents at the document verification stage.

Is Work Experience Required for IOCL Executive Recruitment 2026?

Work experience is required only for Law Officer and Assistant Quality Control Officer.

Graduate Engineer, Officer (Marketing) and Diploma Engineer are open to eligible candidates without prior work experience.

    Work Experience for Law Officer

Law Officer candidates must have at least 2 years of cumulative post-qualification professional experience as of June 30, 2026.

The experience may include legal practice before courts or tribunals, work in law firms, or legal functions in public/private sector organizations and Central or State Governments.

The experience must relate to relevant legal work such as litigation, arbitration, dispute resolution, drafting and vetting legal or contractual documents and other functions specified in the notification.

Experience must be properly documented. Candidates will have to produce documents specifying the organization, designation, nature of work and exact period of service.

Internships, teaching experience, part-time work and short-term training programmes do not count towards the required experience.

Work Experience for Assistant Quality Control Officer

Assistant Quality Control Officer candidates also require 2 years of cumulative post-qualification experience.

The experience must be in Testing, R&D or Quality Control in eligible petroleum, petrochemical, polymer or fertilizer laboratories, or an eligible NABL-accredited laboratory.

The notification specifies the relevant accreditation and testing scope. Experience in unrelated laboratory disciplines does not automatically satisfy the requirement.

Candidates must produce appropriate experience documentation, including the organization, designation, work profile and exact period of employment, along with the supporting documents specified by IOCL.

What is the IOCL Executive Recruitment 2026 CBT Exam Pattern?

The CBT consists of 100 objective multiple-choice questions divided equally between General Aptitude and Domain Knowledge.

    SectionSubjectQuestionsDuration
    A General Aptitude 50 60 minutes
    B Domain Knowledge 50 90 minutes
    Total   100 150 minutes

    Section A consists of:

    • Quantitative Aptitude: 20 questions
    • Logical Reasoning: 15 questions
    • Verbal Ability of English Language: 15 questions

Section B contains questions based on the relevant domain.

Each question carries 1 mark, and 0.25 marks are deducted for every incorrect answer.

An important feature of the examination is the fixed sequence. Candidates must first attempt Section A and then Section B. They cannot alter this sequence.

Candidates eligible for compensatory time receive the additional time prescribed under the notification.

If the examination is conducted in multiple sessions, IOCL may use statistical normalization to account for variations in difficulty levels between different question sets.

What Are the CBT Qualifying Marks?

Candidates must meet both the sectional and overall qualifying requirements.

    CategoryMinimum in Each SectionMinimum Overall
    General/EWS/OBC-NCL 40% 45%
    SC/ST 35% 40%
    PwBD 25% 30%

Candidates should note that these are qualifying marks and not necessarily the shortlisting cut-off.

IOCL will shortlist candidates for GD, GT and PI based on their CBT performance and ranking within the relevant discipline and category. Therefore, simply achieving the minimum qualifying percentage does not guarantee selection for the next stage.

    What Test Centres Are Available?

The CBT is scheduled to be conducted across 83 cities in India.

Candidates have to select three test-centre preferences while filling out the application form. These preferences must be entered in order of priority.

Candidates cannot request a change after submitting the application. IOCL, however, retains the right to cancel, add or change test centres depending on administrative requirements, candidate numbers and centre capacity.

Candidates should therefore be prepared to appear at an alternative centre if IOCL makes such an allotment.

How is the Final Selection Made?

The final selection is based on a composite score from the CBT, GD & GT and Personal Interview.

    ComponentWeightage
    CBT 85%
    GD & GT 5%
    Personal Interview 10%

The CBT carries the largest share of the final score at 85%. However, candidates must still qualify in GD/GT and PI individually.

    The minimum composite score is:

    CategoryMinimum Composite Score
    General/EWS/OBC-NCL 45%
    SC/ST 40%
    PwBD 30%

Candidates must therefore prepare not only for the written examination but also for the later assessment stages.

Step 5: Final Submission and Fee Payment

After final submission, changes are not permitted. Candidates should retain a copy of the completed application form and payment receipt.

Candidates belonging to General, EWS and OBC-NCL categories have to pay ₹1,000 plus applicable GST.

SC, ST and PwBD candidates are exempt from payment of the application fee.

Candidates should complete payment within the application window. The application fee is non-refundable.

    EventDate

    Application Begins August 14, 2026
Last Date to Apply September 3, 2026, till 5:00 PM

All dates are tentative. Candidates should regularly check the official IOCL website for any revised schedule.

Candidates should ideally submit the application before the last day to avoid technical problems, heavy website traffic or payment-related issues.

What Happens if a Candidate Reports Late for the CBT?

Candidates must report to the examination centre within the reporting time mentioned on their call letter.

Candidates who arrive after the specified gate-closing time will not be permitted to enter the examination centre.

Candidates should carry the required call letter and valid photo identity proof. Accepted identity documents include Aadhaar Card, PAN Card, Passport, Driving Licence, Voter's Card and College/University ID card, subject to the conditions specified in the notification.

Ration Cards and Learner's Driving Licences are not accepted as valid identification documents.

Candidates should ensure that the name on their identity proof matches the name appearing on the call letter.

    What Are the Scribe Guidelines?

Eligible candidates with blindness, specified locomotor disabilities, cerebral palsy or a condition affecting writing speed may use a scribe subject to the prescribed conditions.

Candidates have to arrange their own scribe at their own expense.

The scribe must meet the required qualification criteria and cannot be a candidate for the same examination or act as a scribe for multiple candidates.

Eligible candidates using a scribe receive 20 minutes of compensatory time for every hour of examination, provided the facility has been registered during the application process.

Candidates should carefully follow the scribe-related instructions because violations can lead to cancellation of candidature.

What is the Physical Fitness Requirement?

Final selection and joining are subject to the prescribed Pre-Employment Medical Examination (PEME) standards of IOCL.

Candidates should review the relevant medical requirements before applying, particularly those applying for technical functions.

Selection through the CBT and interview stages does not automatically guarantee appointment. Candidates must satisfy the required medical standards before joining.

    What Happens During Document Verification?

Candidates shortlisted for GD, GT and PI will undergo document verification before proceeding to these stages.

Candidates must produce original documents relating to educational qualifications, age, category, experience and other claims made in the application.

Candidates claiming reservation or age relaxation must produce the relevant certificates in the prescribed format.

If a candidate fails to establish eligibility through original documents, IOCL may cancel the candidature even if the candidate has qualified in the CBT.

Candidates should therefore keep all original certificates and supporting documents ready well before the verification stage.

What is the Salary and Remuneration?

The salary varies according to the grade of the post.
