Question

Answer the questions based on the information given below.

On Friday, 1500 people visited a dessert shop, out of which certain numbers of people liked one or more than one dessert out of the three types of desserts: Cake, Pie, and Cheesecake, while the rest of the people didn't like any of the three desserts. The number of people who like only Cake, only Pie, and only Cheesecake are in the ratio 14:11:13, respectively. The number of people who like only Cake is seven times the number of people who like all three types of desserts. The number of people who like both Cake and Pie but not Cheesecake is 50% more than the number of people who like all three types of desserts. The number of people who like both Cheesecake and Cake is 165 less than the number of people who like only Pie. The number of people who like both Cheesecake and Pie but not Cake is five more than the number of people who like both Cheesecake and Cake but not Pie. The number of people who didn't like any of the three desserts is 50% more than the number of people who like exactly two types of desserts.

What percent of the people didn’t like any of the three desserts?

A 15% Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
B 25% Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
C 22% Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
D 28% Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
E 20% Correct Answer Incorrect Answer

Solution

Let the number of people who like only Cake, only Pie and only Cheesecake are 14x, 11x and 13x respectively. Number of people who like all the three types of desserts = 14x/7 = 2x Number of people who like both Cake and Pie desserts but not Cheesecake dessert = 2x × 1.5 = 3x Number of people who like both Cheesecake and Cake desserts = 11x – 165 Number of people who like both Cheesecake and Cake desserts but not Pie dessert = 11x – 165 – 2x = 9x – 165 Number of people who like both Cheesecake and Pie desserts, but not Cake dessert = 9x – 165 + 5 = 9x – 160 Number of people who like exactly who types of desserts = 3x + 9x – 165 + 9x – 160 = 21x – 325 Number of people who didn’t like any of three desserts = 1.5 × (21x – 325) = 31.5x – 487.5 So according to question: 14x + 11x + 13x + 2x + 21x – 325 + 31.5x – 487.5 = 1500 92.5x – 812.5 = 1500 92.5x = 2312.5 x = 25 So, the numbers of people who like only Cake, only Pie and only Cheesecake are 350, 275 and 325 respectively. Number of people who like all the three types of desserts = 2 × 25 = 50 Number of people who like both Cake and Pie desserts but not Cheesecake dessert = 3 × 25 = 75 Number of people who like both Cheesecake and Cake desserts but not Pie dessert = 9 × 25 – 165 = 60 Number of people who like both Cheesecake and Pie desserts, but not Cake dessert = 9 × 25 – 160 = 65 Number of people who didn’t like any of three desserts = 31.5 × 25 – 487.5 = 300 Desired percentage = 300/1500 × 100 = 300/15 = 20%

Question

Determine the difference in the number of doll and car toys sold on Thursday.

A 45 Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
B 30 Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
C 65 Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
D 50 Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
E none of these Correct Answer Incorrect Answer

Solution

ATQ, Let number of Dolls Toys sold on Thrusday Friday and Saturday be '6x', '5x'and '7x' respectively. Let number of Cars Toys sold on Thrusday Friday and Saturday be '3y', '5y'and '4y' respectively. ATQ; 6x + 5x + 7x = 720 - 360 Or, 18x = 360 So, x = 20 Also, 3y + 5y + 4y = 360 Or, 12y = 360 So, y = 30 So, number of Doll Toys sold on Thrusday = 6 × 20 = 120 And, number of Car Toys sold on Thrusday = 3 × 30 = 90 So, total number of Toys sold on Thrusday = 120 + 90 = 210 Similarly, Required difference = 120 - 90 = 30
