    Question

A container ‘X’ holds 400 litres of a solution which is

5/8th milk and the rest is water. 30% of this solution is poured into container ‘Y’, which already has 100 litres milk and 60 litres water. What will be the final ratio of milk to water in container ‘Y’?
A 5:7 Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
B 1:8 Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
C 3:2 Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
D 5:3 Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
E None of these Correct Answer Incorrect Answer

    Solution

    ATQ,

    Quantity of milk in container ‘X’ = 400 × (5/8) = 250 litres

    Quantity of water in container ‘X’ = 400 – 250 = 150 litres

    Required ratio = {(0.30 × 250) + 100}:{(0.30 × 150) + 60} = (75 + 100):(45 + 60) = 175:105 = 5:3
