Question
Three figures X, Y, and Z are such that X is 1.5 times Y
and Z is the mean of X and Y. The sum of all three comes out to be 675. Find the second greatest figure among them.Solution
ATQ,
Let the value of Y be ‘x’
So, value of X = 1.5x
So, value of Z = (x + 1.5x)/2 = 2.5x/2 = ‘1.25x’
ATQ;
x + 1.5x + 1.25x = 675
Or, 3.75x = 675
Or, x = 180
So, the second greatest figure = ‘Z’ = 1.25x = 1.25 × 180 = 225
