      Question

A stone worth Rs.4800 drops and breaks with weight in

the ratio 1:3:4. The price of stone is directly proportional to square of its weight. Find the total loss?
A Rs.2850 Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
B Rs.2950 Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
C Rs.2750 Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
D Rs.2650 Correct Answer Incorrect Answer

      Solution

      Let the weight of stone is 8Kg. So when it breaks, the weight of parts will be 1Kg, 3Kg & 4Kg. Now it is given that Price of stone is directly proportional to square of its weight. Original price was Rs.4800 & Let new price after break be x. Price/(Weight) 2 = constant ; So 4800/(8) 2 = x /(1 2 +3 2 +4 2 ) 4800/64 = x/26 x = Rs.1950; So the loss will be = 4800 – 1950 = Rs.2850
