    Let length and breadth of the rectangular board be x and y respectively. As we know, Area of the rectangle = xy New length of the rectangular board = x x 108/100 = 1.08x New breadth of the rectangular board = y x 98/100 = 0.98y New area of the rectangular board = 1.08x x 0.98y = 1.0584xy   Area increased by (in %) = [(1.0584xy-xy)/xy] x 100 = 5.84%
