    Question

The combined value of ‘r’ and ‘s’ is 750. If

‘r’ is decreased by 4% and ‘s’ is increased by 16%, they become the same. Find the value of ‘s’.
A 339.62 Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
B 286.25 Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
C 167.44 Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
D 255 Correct Answer Incorrect Answer

    Solution

    ATQ,

    r + s = 750 ……(i)

    ATQ,

    0.96 × r = 1.16 × s

    Or, r = (1.16 / 0.96) × s

    So, r = (29s / 24)

Put the value of ‘r’ in equation (i), we get,

    (29s/24) + s = 750

    Or, (53s/24) = 750

    Or, s = 750 × (24/53)

    So, s = 339.62
