    Question

Sum and difference of two natural numbers is 89 and 15.

Find the square of sum of digits of smaller number.
A 49 Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
B 64 Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
C 121 Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
D 100 Correct Answer Incorrect Answer

    Solution

    Let the numbers be 'a' and 'b' (a > b)

    So, a + b = 89 --------- (I)

    Or, a - b = 15 ---------- (II)

On adding equation I and II,

    We get, a + b + a - b = 89 + 15

    Or, 2a = 104

    Or, 'a' = 52

On putting value of 'a' in equation I,

    52 + b = 89

    Or, 'b' = 37

    Required sum = (3 + 7) 2  = 100
