Question
Sum and difference of two natural numbers is 89 and 15. Find the square of sum of digits of smaller number.
Solution
Let the numbers be 'a' and 'b' (a > b)
So, a + b = 89 --------- (I)
Or, a - b = 15 ---------- (II)
On adding equation I and II,
We get, a + b + a - b = 89 + 15
Or, 2a = 104
Or, 'a' = 52
On putting value of 'a' in equation I,
52 + b = 89
Or, 'b' = 37
Required sum = (3 + 7) 2 Β = 100
