Question
Mixture A has milk and water in the ratio 3:2, while
mixture B has them in the ratio 5:7. When both are mixed, the resulting mixture of 1320 ml has milk and water in the ratio of 61:73. What was the original quantity of mixture B?Solution
ATQ,
Let milk and water in mixture A and B be 3x ml and 2x ml, and 5y ml and 7y ml respectively.
Total quantity = 1320 ml
Milk in 1320 ml = (61 / (61+73)) × 1320 = (61/134) × 1320 = 600 ml
Water = 1320 – 600 = 720 ml
So,
3x + 5y = 600
2x + 7y = 720
Solving the equations:
x = 60, y = 48
So, quantity of mixture B = 5y + 7y = 12y = 12 × 48 = 576 ml
